  7. DUSAGE was born out of the need to control the usage of network disk space.
  8. Any time a user called with "help, I can't save my file," or "I can't print,"
  9. it seemed like panic time.  In order to manage that particular problem, volume
  10. restrictions were instituted.  That created other calls about running out of
  11. disk space, as NetWare treats a volume restriction the same as physically being
  12. out of disk space.
  13.  
  14. A disk management tool was needed.  DUSAGE gives these tools to network
  15. administrators.  It allows you to monitor disk usage by user on a server basis,
  16. as well as on a volume basis.  If a user runs low on space (less than 5% of his
  17. restricted space, or less than 1 MB), this fact is clearly marked on the volume
  18. analysis report.

  21. DUSAGE has a number of options to suit your management style:
  22.  
  23. /A produces a group usage analysis.  This analysis shows for each group how
  24.    many members are in the group, who the heavy user is, how much of each
  25.    volume is used by this group.  This option is available only in the
  26.    registered version.
  27.  
  28. /C outputs the data to a comma-delimited file (.csv) for further processing in
  29.    Excel, for example.  The group usage analysis does not have a CSV format.
  30.  
  31. /G allows selection of a group, rather than focusing on all users.
  32.  
  33. /S reports only on sizes of nnn Kbytes or more.  Useful for tracking the heavy
  34.    users.
  35.  
  36. /V reports details on a single volume.  Shows Kbytes used on that volume, and
  37.    if a restriction is in place, the amount of the restriction, how much free,
  38.    and whether this user is low on space.
  39.  
  40. /R shows restrictions rather than usage, across all volumes.  Helps to identify
  41.    those without restrictions.  If blank, no restriction is in place.

  43. Most of these options can be combined, so the reporting capabilities are very
  44. flexible.

  47. CSV Files:
  48.  
  49. There are two types of CSV files, one for a selected volume, and another for
  50. all volumes on a server.
  51.  
  52. ■     Single volume:
  53.       o    user id
  54.       o    total disk space in use ON THIS VOLUME in kBytes
  55.       o    disk space restriction (blank if not set)
  56.       o    disk space free on this volume (blank if no restriction set)
  57.  
  58. ■     All volumes:
  59.       o    user id
  60.       o    total disk space in use ON ALL VOLUMES in kBytes
  61.       o    disk space used on each volume (1 ... n entries)
